It is important. It is one of the most ignored activities during your work-hours. It is the ignitor of great creativity. It is PLAY.
A huge percentage of our current work-force can not identify clear moments of play during his/her working hours. Dull office buildings, dreary factory lines and 'highly efficient' but every draining check-registers... It is no wonder more and more people are sliding in burn-outs and even recognise feelings of depression when they think about their work-hours. Even the one place that any employee could make 'warm' is still neglected by many... the canteen! The one place that will cost close to nothing to make into a place of inspiration and play... by many used to simply allow you to sit and eat your sandwich!
Play should be advocated for, especially during work-hours. It's not just for kids - it's for adults too. When adults play, they force their brain out of its normal patterns and stimulate new ways of thinking and abilities to create an idea, vision, object or solution to a known problem.
Take a first step to integrate play into your working day. Wether you are an employee finding yourself in one of those dull, non-inspiring places, or you are the CEO of the company, I challenge you to integrate some play in your day. Play takes many forms, but the heart of play is pleasure. If it isn’t fun, it isn’t play.
